Reiki

A Path of Self Realisation...

Reiki is the name given to a spiritual system of self realisation and healing which originated in ancient Tibet. Reiki (pronounced ray-key) combines two Japanese words, the first meaning 'free passage' and the second meaning 'universal life force' (energy) so collectively Reiki means 'the free passage of universal energy.' It was popularised in the 1870s by a Japanese Monk named Mikao Usui. Sensei Usui was taught Reiki by the lineage bearer (soke dai) of an ancient Tantric Buddhist tradition – Reiki can be traced directly back to Buddha in an unbroken lineage of enlightened masters – if you know where to look!

Although traditionally a Buddhist practice there is no belief system attached to Reiki, people of all faiths use this unique system of self discovery for understanding, learning to love, and healing themselves and others.

What can Reiki help?

It is possible for healing to take place on any level of being: physical, emotional, mental or spiritual. Acute injuries can be helped to heal very quickly but more chronic illness takes longer. In some terminal cases there is not enough time for the process of disease to be reversed, however, in such cases there is usually a great deal of benefit received through improved quality of life, giving a sense of peace and acceptance during the time remaining. This spreads out like ripples on a mill pond to those who are close as they can see that the suffering is eased.

Reiki can be given at any time or place as no special equipment is necessary. The energy is drawn by the recipient through a channel in the practitioner – the recipient's innate intelligence directs the energy to the areas of most imbalance, bringing mind, body and soul back into alignment.

As running water smoothes the jagged edges of rock, Reiki flows to the areas of need, soothing pain and amplifying the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

Reiki restores balance in one’s life, enhancing all other practices and treatments.

Reiki treatments

The method of receiving a Reiki treatment is simple. The recipient lies on a couch and relaxes. There is no need to take off any clothing as the Reiki will pass through it - even through plaster casts!

The practitioner gently places their hands over the entire body in a series of positions – treating the recipient holistically and not just as a sum of their symptoms. The treatment takes about an hour, each position being held for a few minutes as the energy flows into the areas of need.

We may also integrate some ancient Reiki techniques into the treatment which are administered on a chair.

Often during a Reiki session we become aware of techniques or practices that we pass on to the client so that they can continue their own healing and development at home.

Many sensations may be experienced during a treatment, ranging from heat, cold or tingling to a deep sense of relaxation and of being nurtured. No two treatments are ever the same. As is the case with most treatments a one-off session will help, but for deep healing to take place a course of sessions is usually necessary.

Occasionally the recipient will feel nothing during the treatment, however, rest assured the energy will still be flowing. Reiki is not a belief system and it is often those who try to disprove it who have the most profound healing experiences!

Our Reiki sessions start from one hour in length and cost £55 per hour.
